Dr. Urban
Welcome to my site. I am a chiropractic physician and Active Release Techniques® specialist at Urban Chiropractic: Spine and Sports Clinic in Rocky River, Ohio. I use this space to introduce myself and to explain my approach to the treatment of your neuromusculoskeletal conditions. I will also try to share information that seems helpful to my patients and referring doctors.
About Me:
I grew up in the suburbs of Rocky River, Ohio and spent a significant amount of my youth in and around Cleveland. I received my undergraduate training at Bowling Green State University in Ohio as an Exercise Specialist. I began sport performance training and cardiovascular rehabilitation. After years in the sports training industry I wanted to further my studies to treat my clients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions. I moved to St. Louis and started a dual degree program at Logan College of Chiropractic, where I finished a second baccalaureate degree in Life Sciences and completed the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree program. During my last year at Logan I attended a preceptor ship program at Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic.
Chiropractic licensure requires successful completion of four rigorous National Board examinations, which cover basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, and public health) as well as clinical sciences (orthopedics, neurology, physical examination, diagnosis, radiology and physiotherapy). In addition, the state of Ohio has a written examination in the areas of physical examination, diagnosis, treatment, radiology and patient care.
My chiropractic training was unique in that it included significant clinical training through Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in Chesterfield, Missouri. Prior to the preceptorship, I was a clinic leader in the Biofreeze Rehabilitative Center making rounds with patients and assisting colleagues in their earlier training. My time with the patients and attending physicians fostered my desire to practice in a multi-disciplinary setting and eventually led me here.
As an Active Release Technique® Full Body Certified practitioner I am confident in treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions with this additional certification. ART® is a specific examination and treatment to: muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. There are over 500 protocols and understanding the layers of anatomy and the functional movement patterns makes this technique very effective. I am certified in Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Spine, Long Nerve Entrapments and Master Series. Later this year, I will be completing the Biomechanics certification.
I am married to Camille who is currently attending St. Louis University for the Nurse Practitioner Program and have two athletic dogs, Schatz and Mishka. We enjoy trying new restaurants, working out, traveling to new places and trail running, cross country skiing and biking in the Metroparks.
About my Practice:
- The practice of chiropractic is as broad in scope as the practice of medicine. My practice focuses on the alleviation of pain and the restoration of function. I work primarily with neuromusculoskeletal pain, that is, pain that originates in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. I also treat many people suffering with nerve pain as it relates to musculoskeletal conditions such as disc herniations and nerve entrapment syndromes.
- It is my goal to treat my patients as few times as possible in order to return them to their best possible level of activity with as little discomfort as possible.
- I am happy to treat people for "maintenance care" because it makes them feel better and helps them be more active. However, I do not link regular chiropractic treatment with the prevention of injury or disease, unless of course it is because it keeps them more active and therefore healthier. My patients will not receive high pressure sales pitches and will not be pressured to return to the office repeatedly after they are feeling better.
- Getting to know my patients is the highlight of my practice. I feel fortunate that I have the opportunity to spend time with them during treatment. Without this interaction my practice would be much less fulfilling than it is.
- I am proud of the fact that I have built a practice based on referrals from other health care professionals and on referrals from my patients as opposed to heavy advertising. I believe that referrals are the highest form of praise and I respect that my patients trust me with their family and friends and that my colleagues trust me with their patients.
