Why the Spine and Sports Clinic?

Achieving good health makes everything in life that much better. Good health translates to high self-esteem, more productivity, a happier and healthier mindset. For this reason, people are eager to get and stay healthy — especially when it’s stripped from them by injury, illness, or stressors. The most rewarding part of my career is helping my patients improve their health through treatment, lifestyle choices, and being active. Performance, Experience, Community, and Family are my core values that make it happen every day.

PERFORMANCE

I’ve always been passionate about sports and living an active lifestyle. As a high school athlete playing soccer and baseball, I strived for peak performance with constant practicing, lifting weights, and conditioning. However, I never understood the proper lifting mechanics and repeatedly hurt my back and hips. I had the back brace, injections, physical therapy, and yet never understood why. It wasn’t until I received a diagnostic/ biomechanical x-ray and evaluation from a chiropractor (and now mentor) that I began to understand why my back was hurting so much. I began treatment and got a series of adjustments while following the proper exercise prescription. I got better and felt stronger than ever before. This experience had a lasting impression as it inspired me to pursue this career.

EXPERIENCE

I received my undergraduate training at Bowling Green State University in Ohio as an Exercise Specialist. I began sport-performance training and cardiovascular rehabilitation. After years in the sports training industry, I wanted to further my studies to treat my clients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions. I moved to St. Louis and started a dual degree program at Logan College of Chiropractic, where I finished a second baccalaureate degree in Life Sciences and completed the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree program. During my last year at Logan, I attended a preceptorship program at Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic.

Chiropractic licensure requires successful completion of four rigorous National Board examinations, which cover basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, and public health) and clinical sciences (orthopedics, neurology, physical examination, diagnosis, radiology, and physiotherapy). Also, Ohio has a written test in the areas of physical examination, diagnosis, treatment, radiology, and patient care.

My chiropractic training was unique in that it included significant clinical training through Chapel, McMurtrie & Bartlett Chiropractic Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in Chesterfield, Missouri. Before the preceptorship, I was a clinic leader in the Biofreeze Rehabilitative Center Human Performance Center, making rounds with patients and assisting colleagues in their earlier training. My time with those patients and attending physicians fostered my desire to practice in a multi-disciplinary setting and helped shape how I practice today.

COMMUNITY

As a Rocky River native, I take pride in serving the community in which I grew up and the surrounding towns and suburbs where I live. When I started over 15 years ago, the area was underserved in chiropractics. In recent years the competition has grown tremendously, making it even more important for me to be the best I can for my patients and where they live.

FAMILY

I have many things to be thankful for each day. My family is a tremendous motivation for who I am and all I do. My practice reflects who I am as a father, husband, friend, and neighbor. There is nothing more rewarding at the end of the day than coming home to my wife Camille, our three lively children, Xander, Eliana, and Graelyn, and the perpetual energy of our dogs Paxton and Scout.
