WRIST & HAND

Wrists and hands are prone to many injuries and reoccurring conditions.

We depend on our hands and wrists for both simple and complex movements that impact every aspect of our day to day lives. It’s easy to overuse, stress, and strain the many joints, muscles, and ligaments to the point of injury. Urban Chiropractic can treat your injuries as well as help identify ways to strengthen your wrist and hands and help prevent them from future injuries.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a progressive condition caused by nerve compression in the wrist. Its symptoms include numbness, tingling, burning, and even sharp pain in the wrist, palm, and fingers.

The discomfort is gradual, and each patient experiences it differently. If you sit at a desk all day and type at a keyboard, or if you perform assembly line work, you are at a higher risk of developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Conventional treatments such as rest, immobilization, and medication may help to reduce inflammation that causes nerve compression. We offer our patients additional solutions such as wrist, hand, and elbow joint manipulation, stretching and strengthening exercises, and in some cases, Active Release Technique. We also make recommendations for nutritional supplements, which may help with symptoms.

The structure and function of the entire body should be analyzed before considering any surgery. A full assessment of your spinal structure and how it functions with the rest of your body is worthwhile. Misalignment of the spine and how it affects your sitting or working posture could be a contributing factor to your Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other physical problems.

If you're trying to avoid surgery for your Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, we can help.

HAND INJURIES

The hand is a biomechanically complex body part. An injury can be debilitating!

With 29 bones and 34 muscles, it is surprisingly complex to generate movement in the hand. If you have ever experienced a hand injury, you will be reminded very quickly how much we use and need the movement of our hands.

Various hand injuries can occur at all ages and for various reasons. Children are susceptible to cuts and injuries from falls, whereas older adults are more likely to lose muscle strength and bone mass.

Many injuries can be minor and not cause significant impairment, but because the hands are so frequently used for everyday activities, it is important to recognize and treat any damage.

When movement is restricted in your hand, or if you are feeling pain of any kind, contact us so we can properly identify any injury and restore full function as quickly as possible.

WRIST INJURIES

The wrist is a joint that can be prone to painful conditions and injury and can lead to pain in other parts of the body.

Playing sports and daily routine activities such as turning a doorknob depend on the wrist joint. Pain in the wrist can be a result of fractures, sprains, tendinitis, arthritis or osteoporosis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

If your wrist pain is accompanied by loss of range of motion or abnormal appearance like swelling or deformation, you will need to seek treatment to avoid further damage to this delicate joint.

By treating a wrist injury as soon as possible, you are less likely to experience further discomfort in the fingers, hand, elbow and arm. These areas rely on one another for proper function. According to the ACA, chiropractic joint manipulation and mobilization of the wrist and hand, stretching and strengthening exercises and soft-tissue mobilization techniques can be helpful.

If you have questions about wrist pain or are concerned about an injury, don't hesitate to give us a call.
